Implementation of an international interdiciplinary program for teaching Gerontology

General information for EU/US students
.

A four-month stay overseas is suggested for students to learn the language of the host country, to delve into the different approaches to gerontology and to acquire first-hand professional experience by means of apprenticeships and work placements at qualified centres in the field of gerontology.

Material resources and sundry other organizational support will be provided for project development by each partner institution. This includes the library and information resources as well. In order to provide work placements and internships in the field of Gerontology for the students taking part in this programme, each university will use existing agreements with public, private or other institutions (NGO's). In addition, students will have access to whatever technology (videoconference, e-learning tools) they may need for the successful completion of the training modules that make up the programme.

During the life of the project, each European university should send seven students to the US and will receive another seven students to create an equal exchange balance. All the students, undergraduate and graduate alike, will spend one semester or the equivalent academic term abroad. In this way, the acquisition of skills and knowledge needed to prepare students for a global workforce will be enhanced. Participation in these programmes will not cause students any delay in their expected graduation dates for the completion of their degree.
